Translational Research/Pathology Shared Resource

 

TPSR Sample Drop-Off and Pick-Up procedures:

Before harvesting/sampling, we strongly suggest that our first-time customers set up a consultation meeting with us to review/update sample collection and preparation protocols to ensure the best outcome for your precious samples (we provide both remote and in-person consultation, which are free of charge) , which will:

  • help you to meet reach the goals of your experiment;
  • properly illustrate the desired and intended features of the anatomical and histopathological details;
  • and be compatible with further analysis.

For routine requests, walk-in drop-off/pick-up are welcome during our work hours (Mon-Fri, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm). This applies to paraffin blocks or fixed tissue samples for paraffin processing, embedding,  sectioning, H&E stain and Special Stain, Whole slides scanning.

Frozen, IHC/TUNEL/ISH, CBC requests must be scheduled for a drop-off/pick-up time. This applies to frozen samples or fixed tissue samples for frozen sectioning, IHC/TUNEL/ISH request with both samples and reagents, animal blood CBC analysis. Customers must contact the Shared Resource (Tel: 215-503-3858/215-503-8826 or Email to zhijiu.zhong@jefferson.edu during after-hours) to schedule for such a drop-off time. Unattended samples might lead to failed procedure for the above requests, a scheduled drop-off/pick-up time is necessary.

When dropping off:

  • Request ID and/or name of the customer should be labelled on the sample container(s).
  • Please print out the hardcopy of your request sheet and submit it together with other materials.
  • Please notify one of our staff when dropping off samples so we can check the sample preparation and request details, safely store/secure the submitted materials, verify and update your request status.

Never-ever drop off samples without notifying our staff.

 

Important Information about Aperio CS2 ScanScope Service

On October 5th, 2022, we succesfully reassumed Aperio ScanScope service to our users.

Below are requirements and suggestions for you to utilize this service:

  1. As we upgraded the eSlideManager to the latest version, you will also need upgrade the image viewing software, ImageScope, to latest version (version 12.4.6.5003). Otherwise, there will be some difficulties when open images from the new server.
  • To upgrade your personal PC, please uninstall the old version, download the latest version software through Leica official website and install it on your personal PC. You will be asked to register before downloading the software.
  • If you need upgrade the ImageScope software on your lab PC, please download the software from link above to your PC desktop in advance, and then submit a service request to Jeff IS&T solution center: under REQUEST SOMETHING\OTHER\ Other Request:

In “Describe what you need” area, tell Jeff IS&T that you need uninstall old version ImageScope software in your PC (Include the PCS# of on the Jeff IS&T service tag attached to the PC) and install the latest version (version 12.4.6.5003) of ImageScope software. Mention that the software was downloaded and saved on desktop.

  1. Your Aperio eSlideManager account login information and service request procedure will remain the same as before, but the server address to access your digital images is changed to: https://zhongfs01.tjh.tju.edu(please add this page to your favorites)

Note: There might be a warning sign saying that "⚠ Your connection isn't private" when you try to open the Webpage. Click "Advance", then click "Proceed to zhongfs01.tjh.tju.edu (unsafe)" to access the server.

  2. If you are new to the Aperio ScanScope System and would like to utilize this service, please contact this shared resource to register yourself in our system and initialize a training secession for the software.

 

About us:

The Translational Research/Pathology Shared Resource provides full range, state of the art, detail orientated, outstanding array of experimental histopathology services complemented by molecular pathology, digital pathology and veterinary hematology services to SKCC members, TJU and local research community in greater Philadelphia area. In collaboration with our internal labs at TJU, we also facilitate the interactions between investigators and SKCC Biorepository and Pathology Department to access human tissue samples and perform Laser Capture Microdissection of tissues to capture individual cells. The Translational Research/Pathology Shared Resource is used by over 100 principle investigators and has provided key data that support many publications and grant applications.

Our Instruments

 

Mission

The mission of this shared resource is to provide:

  1. Full range outstanding array of experimental histopathology services, including paraffin and frozen tissue processing, slide preparation, histochemical staining (H&E and Special Stains)

  2. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining, which is performed on paraffin sections, frozen tissue or cytological preparations and utilizes a broad range of optimized commercial antibodies or antibodies provided by the investigator with automatic staining platform: DAKO Autostainer Plus and Biocare Medical intelliPATH FLX®.

  3. TUNEL Labelling and in situ Hybridization using RNAscope® technique

  4. Light field whole slides scanning (20X and 40X) with Aperio CS2 ScanScope.Link to our Image server: SKCC TPSR eSlideManager Server Link

  5. Quantitative, automated veterinary Complete Blood Count (CBC) using GENESIS Veterinary Hematology Analyzer.

Procedures to Utilize This Shared Resource:

For all first time users, please watch iLab user tutorials videos.

The procedures are:

1. Both lab member who is going to use SKCC shared resources under iLab and their PI need register in iLab system if they haven’t done so. For internal users, they will use their Jefferson campus key and password to log in after complete the registration. External users can generate their own user name and password. PI should register first, so their lab member can register under the PI’s lab. PI need approve the lab member’s membership in iLab system before he can join the lab in iLab system. 2. For internal users, PI need set up payment information with our IT expert Ryan Smalley (Tel: 3-9692, Email: Ryan.Smalley@jefferson.edu) after the registration. 

    For external users, please generate a PO(Purchase Order) before submit request to us.

    No request will go through the iLab system to us without payment information.

3. For internal users, PI need assign charge code to their lab member to allow them to access the charge code. See instruction How to manage membership request and charge codes (for PI)

4. After PI assigns the charge code, the lab member can submit a request to us in iLab system under Request Service tab. Please fill out samples information and request details in the requisition section and print out the request sheet (use the printer icon under "Forms and Request Details" to download a PDF file and print it out).

5. For non-Frozen request, no approval is needed. Please submit the request sheet together with the samples to us. For frozen request, please always call 215-503-3858/8826 or email us to make an appointment before submitting the samples to this shared resource.

6. We will process the request once we received the hard copy of the request sheet and samples. An automatic email(from: no-reply@ilabsolutions.com titled "NOTIFICATION: XXXX The Service request TR/PSR-XX-XXXX has been completed") will be sent to you once we update the request status to "completed".

7. You can come and bring you final work back to your lab.
